The sermons and chanting from the Basilica of San Francisco de Asís have overflowed to the nearby Hostal Los Frailes. Opened in 2001, innkeepers dressed as monks provide chambers for true believers and the less devout on Calle Teniente Rey No. 8 between Oficios y Mercaderes Streets, just a few meters from Old Havana’s Plaza Vieja. Former residence of the French Creole Pedro Pablo Duquesne, the hostel recreates an ancient monastery environment with sextants, oil lamps, and beautiful murals.
